Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 October 2026. This page describes what RoomMood Lab records, and what it deliberately does not.

We do not use cookies

RoomMood Lab sets no cookies and runs no advertising or tracking scripts. There is nothing on this site that follows you to another one. The one script on these pages that we did not write is Cloudflare's Web Analytics script, described below.

Page counts

So that we can tell which guides are actually read, each page view records four things to our own database: the page address, the hostname of the site you arrived from, a country code supplied by our hosting provider, and the time.

Our own count does not record your IP address, your browser or device details, or any identifier. Only the referring hostname is kept, never the full address, because a full address can carry information from the other site. Nothing recorded can be traced back to you or joined up across visits. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, our own count records nothing at all.

Since September 2026 a page view is only recorded once the page has actually been on your screen for a few seconds, or as soon as you scroll or touch it, whichever happens first. Open a page and leave straight away and nothing is written down. This was done to keep automated traffic out of our own numbers, and it means we record less than before, not more. Nothing additional is stored to make it work: no session identifier, no timing, no record of what you did.

One more thing is recorded, added in September 2026: a single yes or no for whether the request identified itself as an automated crawler rather than a person. Search engines and link previewers visit this site too, and without that one bit we cannot tell their visits apart from yours. Only the yes or no is stored. The browser identification it is worked out from is read once, in memory, and never written down: a yes or no cannot be traced to anybody, and a full browser identification can.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

Our host, Cloudflare, also counts page loads for us with its Web Analytics script. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Cloudflare says the script does not identify visitors by IP address or browser details, and that the IP address the request comes from is discarded rather than stored. What we see from it is totals: pages, referring sites, countries, browser and device types, and page speed. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers this script.

Room reports

If you order a measured room report, we store what you enter on the order page, even if you do not go on to pay: the room's size, the door and window, and the furniture. Payment happens on Gumroad, and we never see your card. Once Gumroad confirms the payment, we also store the Gumroad sale and order numbers and a salted one-way hash of the email you paid with (a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address). The hash lets us find a lost report link again when you enter that email and the order number on the report page. We do not keep the address itself in our database. Your report opens from a private link, and anyone you share that link with can open it too.

Email

Apart from the hashed email described under Room reports, RoomMood Lab does not collect email addresses. There is no signup form on the site, and no mailing list is being run. If that changes, this page will say so before any address is collected.

Link click counts

Some guides link to a manufacturer’s own product page so you can check a published measurement for yourself, and the room-size pages link to our own page for ordering a room report. When one of these links is clicked we record three things to our own database: our own short label for that link, which page of ours it was on, and the time. We do not record who clicked it, where you went afterwards, or anything about your browser or device. A Do Not Track signal suppresses this exactly as it suppresses the page count.

Affiliate links

RoomMood Lab currently carries no affiliate links or advertising, and earns nothing from the manufacturer links described above. If that changes, links will be labelled and the affiliate disclosure updated before any such link is published.
